Lunches

School Lunch Bookings

Parents and carers who wish their child to have a school lunch must book in advance using the My Child At School (MCAS) parent portal, available via the app or web browser.
The booking deadline is 23:59 the day before.

If no meal has been booked by 23:59, parents must provide their child with a packed lunch from home.

When booking, parents and carers should select the specific meal option for their child to ensure it is something they will eat.

Unless a child is entitled to a free meal (Universal Infant Free School Meals or Free School Meals), sufficient credit must be available on the child’s account at the time of booking to cover the cost.

This booking system allows our kitchen team to know exactly how many meals of each type are required. This ensures the correct quantities are cooked, which reduces food waste and helps to keep meal costs down.

At lunchtime, children receive the pre-selected main meal they chose when booked. They then have free choice of vegetables/salad and dessert options at the counter.

A colour-coded copy of our current 3‑week rolling menu is shown below. Please refer to this menu and discuss the choices with your child when making bookings.

Children with a medically diagnosed allergy or intolerance will receive a meal adapted to meet their needs. Our caterers liaise directly with parents to ensure these requirements are accommodated safely and appropriately.

Free School Meal Entitlements

All children in Reception and Key Stage One are entitled to a free school lunch under the Universal Infant Free School Meals (UIFSM) programme.

However, families who would qualify for means‑tested Free School Meals (FSM) based on household income may be eligible for additional support, even though their child already receives a free meal through UIFSM.
Please use the eligibility checker here to find out if you qualify.

KS2 Meal Costs and Free School Meal Eligibility

For children in KS2, the current cost of a school lunch is £2.80 per day (this is reviewed periodically).

Some KS2 children may also be eligible for means‑tested Free School Meals, depending on parental income.
If you think you might qualify, please check eligibility here

There is no difference in the meals provided to children who receive free school meals and those who pay—the system is discrete, and no child is identifiable at the point of service.

Packed Lunches

Children may bring a packed lunch and a still (non‑fizzy) drink from home.

Please ensure that:

  • Breakable containers are not used, for safety reasons.

  • Lunch bags or boxes are clearly labelled with your child’s name.

For safety, grapes and cherry tomatoes must be cut in half, especially for younger children, as they are known choking hazards.

Please note that we are a Nut Aware school.
To help keep all children safe, please do not send nuts or products containing nuts into school, as we have pupils with severe allergies.
