On Wednesday 26th April, Lawford took part in a netball tournament at Thurstable School Tiptree in their first competitive matches playing high 5s.

The team had an outstanding tournament, only losing one match finishing as runners up.

We are so incredibly proud of this team, who were all-round superstars and played brilliantly throughout the afternoon - for those unfamiliar with high 5 rules, the team has to rotate after every match and play every position, centre, goal attack, goal defence, goal shooter and goal keeper, along with 3 rotations off the pitch keeping score, time keeping and centre sport marker.

Huge congratulations go to our Y5s Sophia and Poppy J and Y6s Thea, Grace, Mia, Sophia, Grant and Tom.

On Tuesday 25th April, Lawford welcomed All Saints Oakley once again for a friendly Y4 football fixture.

Lawford opened the scoring early on with Harley netting from a Jerry assist. George then grabbed a brace of goals, both brilliantly assisted by Harley. Theo, Zachary and Jerry worked hard in the midfield and Xavier and Flynn did a brilliant job in defence, backed up by Henry in goal. Lawford led at half time 3 - 0.

The second half saw Theo put on the GK gloves, followed by Luca for the final quarter with all the boys keeping a clean sheet. Lawford proved far too strong for All Saints in the second half and a flurry of goals followed from Stan, Jerry, Harley and Henry, with George, Stan x 2 and Jerry getting the assists. Final result 7 - 0.

Well done boys!

Spring Term 2023

Dates for diaries

Y3/4 Roman cup competition - Corporal Budd Gymnasium Colchester

Y2/3 Panathlon event - CBSSP Northern gateway Colchester

Tuesday 14th March - Football and netball fixtures v All Saints - Great Oakley

Tuesday 21st March - Football v Dedham and netball v Mistley

Wednesday 29th March - Essex cross-country finals - Southend

Lawford v All Saints Great Oakley (Football)

On Tuesday 21st March, Lawford welcomed All Saints Great Oakley for the first of their mini-league football competition matches.

With a squad of 10 players, we were able to offer debuts for four of our young Y4 players, with the rest of the team made up of our more experienced Y5s and 6s.

Lawford started well and dominated from the kick off with some excellent work in central midfield by Oscar and tireless work rate from Richard up front. Lawford went ahead with a goal from debutant Jack, followed quickly by a superb individual effort from Rich to make it 2-0, Oscar soon netted a third (both the 1st and 3rd goals assisted by Richard) and then Rich bagged the fourth just before half time, ably assisted by Oscar. Lawford's goalkeeper - Tom, had little to do as the 'All Saints' attacks were quickly thwarted  by the strong defence of Lily, Travis and Herbie.

Half time saw some changes in positions and all the Y4 debutants played a vital role in securing the win, Stan, Tommy and Theo W worked hard on the flanks and Jack had a further opportunity to play as striker netting Lawford's 5th goal assisted by Tommy, Richard secured his hattrick assisted by captain Lily and Theo made it 7 with yet again another selfless Richard assist. All-Saints managed to score a brilliant consolation goal in the last few minutes with a superb individual strike. Final score 7 - 1.

We were so incredibly proud of this whole team performance, not only for their attitude on the pitch but for their fantastic sportsmanship all round. Our Y4s did brilliantly in their first match for school - we are very proud of you all.

Lawford v All-Saints Great Oakley (Netball)

What a fantastic team effort from our newly formed netball team, running out 9 - 2 winners after a brilliant match. Congratulations to all our players Nancy, Grace, Thea, Mia, Sadie, Evelyn, Poppy, Sophia and Evie on their first win. Top goal scorer was Mia with 6. We are so proud of you all.

St Joseph's Girls Football Competition

St Joseph's Girls Football Competition

On Friday 20th May 2022, Lawford entered a boys and girls football competition at St Joseph's College Ipswich and what an incredible afternoon of competition we had!

The girls won 2 games and drew 3 in their round robin tournament without conceding a goal, which resulted in a runner's up medal, narrowly missing out on being crowned champions by 1 point.

We are so proud of our girls team, having not played together before, they entered their first competition and were wonderful representatives of our school, demonstrating fantastic sportsmanship and determination on and off the pitch. Well done girls, you did yourselves, team mates, families and our school proud. Congratulations Flossy, Isla, Molly, Belle, Lily, Sophia, Odessa, Amelia and Amelie.

St Joseph's Boys Football Competition

St Jospeh's Boys Football Competition

Huge congratulations to our Y5/6 boys football team for their fantastic performance in the St Joseph's football competition today. Leading the way in group A, our boys won all their matches 1-0, 3-0, 1-0 and 5-0. In the semi-final they faced the runner's up in group B (St Philomena's prep) and were victorious 2-0.

With St Margaret's Prep (runner's up in group A) defeating St Joseph's the winners of group B in the other semi-final, we faced the same opposition from the group stage competition and what a hard fought final it was, all even at full time, extra time of 4 minutes was played with St Margaret's managing to score in the dying minutes.

We are so proud of the boys, who played fantastic football throughout the afternoon and were fantastic representatives of our school. Congratulations on your runner's up medals Thomas, Jake, Jacob, Finn, Sam, Cauley, Calum and Grant. We are so proud of you all.

Essex Cross country finals

Eleanor ran brilliantly in the Y3 girls race, along with Grant in the Y5 boys and Sam in the Y6 boys event, with Sam finishing with the highest placing of 25th. We are so proud of you all for taking part and competing against the best in Essex.

Our Y5 girls also had a fantastic race, well done to Nancy, Sophia, Poppy, Mia, Grace and Evelyn for a fantastic 5th place in the team event. You are all super stars and we are so proud of you all!

Spring 2022

Y3/4 Roman Cup

The Y3/4 Roman Cup competition took place at the Corporal Budd Gymnasium in Colchester.

As always, the children selected to take part did their families and school proud, demonstrating not only their fantastic racket skills over the course of the 3 week competition but also fantastic sportsmanship.

Congratulations to Persephone on winning the best Y3 girl award and to our Y3 B team for winning the Silver cup competition. We are so proud of you all.

Autumn 2021

After 18+ months without competition or sporting opportunities, we are really excited to be back and ready to offer our children some incredible opportunities this academic year!

We would like to welcome all our external sports coaches with thanks for all the provision you provide our children at breakfast, lunch and after school sports clubs along with PE session support for all year groups.

Mini Marathon

A huge, huge thank you to all our wonderful parents for their generous support of our Virgin Mini Marathon event. Through your generous sponsorship of the event, we were able to raise well over £1000 for new playground equipment and hopefully an exciting sporting opportunity for the whole school.

We are so very grateful, thank you.

Birch Hall adventures - Mud run!

On Monday 29th November, Lawford travelled to Kirby to take part in the Birch Hall Adventure mud run.

All the Y6s were paired up with a year 5 runner and had to complete a mile run around a very muddy field, with various challenging obstacles to overcome after the ice was broken ... yes, it was that cold! 🥶❄️

This inclusive event is always an enjoyable sporting fixture on the events calendar and the children were fantastic as always. Demonstrating real sportsmanship, by supporting their partners and doing their best as always, it was a thoroughly enjoyable team event. The children were all absolutely amazing.

Thank you so much to all our parent helpers too: Mrs Lyons, Mr and Mrs Woolgar, Ms King, Ms Hollingshead, Mr Jones, Mrs Gillanders and Mrs Livingston for giving up your time to transport groups of children and to the individual parents who took their own child to ensure they could take part in this event. We are really grateful as always for your support. Thank you too to our school team of drivers Mrs Usher, Mr Wells, Mrs Pritchett, Miss Dadd and Miss Fairbairn. It was wonderful to see all our upper KS2 children take part.

CBSSP Cross Country Success

CBSSP Cross Country

All our children were a real credit to their families and school and ran with real determination and courage. We are so proud of how they always demonstrate their sportsmanship, whilst offering support and encouragement for their peers.

Huge congratulations go to our Y5 girls team - Mia, Nancy, Poppy and Sophia, Y6 Sam, Y5 Grant and Y3 Eleanor, who were absolutely phenomenal, finishing 1st (girls team) and 3rd individually resulting in qualification for the Essex finals next year.
