Welcome back to the new academic and sporting year, we are hoping for another busy and successful 2018/19, when yet again, we will be able to offer the children a range of sporting fixtures and opportunities.
We have started the Autumn term with both football and netball after school clubs, along with multi-sports for KS1. We have seen the return of Tennis for Kids on Tuesday and Thursday mornings before school with Matthew Watson and hope to continue this on a Thursday morning after October half term. Anyone interested in signing up, new to tennis or not, please see Mrs Haines or Mrs Glasgow.
We have also been given the opportunity for after school squash coaching on a Friday after half term, this will initially be open to children in Y5 and Y6 only. Letters will soon be handed to children in those year groups.

Year 5/6 girls football tournament.
On Tuesday 13th November, Lawford travelled to Thurstable School in Tiptree to compete in a girls 7 a side football tournament. Huge congratulations to all the girls from years 5 and 6 - Ruby, Alice, Phoebe, Martha, Esme, Dulcie, Issy and Bethany for an outstanding team performance and coming home with bronze medals and a very impressive 3rd place out of 13 schools.
Lawford were drawn in a pool against Kelvedon, Great Totham, Maldon, Feering and Mersea with results as follows:
Kelvedon v Lawford
Lawford v Great Totham
Lawford v Maldon
Feering v Lawford
Lawford v Mersea
Finishing in the top 2 in group B, Lawford progressed to the semi-finals where they faced Heathlands. After a close fought battle, Heathlands managed to scrap the ball across the line for a 1-0 victory. Undeterred, Lawford went in to play off for 3rd/4th place, again after a close fought battle the result at full time was 0-0, extra time followed which again resulted in 0-0. Penalties decided the outcome and after the first round, all was even again, so sudden death penalties finally gave Lawford the result they deserved. A special mention for Ruby who performed brilliantly throughout the tournament but especially in the penalty shoot out finale.
Well done girls, we are extremely proud of you all.
Essex Finals - KS1 - 3 Tees 2 cricket
On Wednesday 11th July 2018, Lawford took part in their final sports event of the year - the Essex Finals of the KS1 3 Tess 2 cricket competition.
Eight children from Y2 travelled to Billericay cricket club to represent the Colchester Blackwater School Sports Partnership after winning the area competition back in early June.
Sixteen teams took part in the level 3 finals and were drawn into four pools of four for the first round of competition. In their first match, Lawford faced Chipping Ongar and after some fantastic batting and organised teamwork on the field, Lawford walked away victorious 46 - 31. In the second match, Lawford played Cressing, they batted incredibly well and fielded superbly as a team, winning 43 - 34. In their last pool match Lawford came up against Edwards and yet again, worked phenomenally well as a team on the field and showed true determination when they went in to bat, winning
43 - 36.
Finishing top in pool 3, Lawford were then pooled with the winners of groups 1, 2 and 4 to compete for the top four placings overall. First up in the last round of matches were Oaklands and after some accurate batting from the opposition earning bonus points for hitting the ball between coned gates, Lawford were narrowly beaten 42 - 39.
In the second match, Lawford faced a very organised OLS and after some superb teamwork from both sides and determined batting, the final result stood as a draw 33 - 33. In their last match, Lawford played Leigh Chappel and following more superb batting and fielding all round, Lawford ran away winners
46 - 39.
We are beyond proud of this young team, who demonstrated so much maturity in their all round sportsmanship and determined performance, that finishing 3rd overall in Essex, is simply phenomenal. 3rd place doesn't really reflect just how close the final round of matches were, one extra run in the game Lawford drew would have seen them crowned as winners. Without any shadow of a doubt, these young people are winners in our eyes. Huge congratulations go to our KS1 super stars Isabelle, Isla, Calum, Finn, Macauley, Jake, Samuel and Luke.
In celebration of England making it through to the quarter finals in the 2018 world cup, children and staff took part in an 'Open goal penalty shoot out celebration competition'
'Come on England'
On Thursday 28th June 2018, seven children who won the Colchester Blackwater competition in High 5 netball, travelled to Basildon Sporting Village to compete in the level 3 competition at the Essex finals and summer games.
Representing the Colchester Blackwater area, the team from Lawford came up against the top teams from across the county districts. Fourteen teams made it through to the finals and were pooled into two groups, in the first round of the competition Lawford faced six teams and walked off court with two wins, two draws and one defeat.
After finishing an impressive third and only narrowly missing out on playing for 1st -4th place after the group stage, Lawford were drawn to play off for the 5th - 8th places, so another three matches followed.
Lawford dominated the court in all three of the play off matches, walking off victorious in every match and secured 5th place overall.
To say, how incredibly proud we are of these children, is an understatement, to win the Colchester area competition was a phenomenal achievement in itself but to go on and play against the top teams in the county and finish 5th overall is simply superb. Congratulations Bella, Annabel, Phoebe, Molly, Albert, Cameron and Lachlan (Captain).
Year 4 Mini Olympics competition - Manningtree High School
On Thursday 28th June, twelve children from Year 4 took part in a Mini Olympic event at Manningtree High School against Dedham and Highfields primary schools.
The children displayed fantastic teamwork and sportsmanship throughout the competition and won all of the sprinting relay events, with Tobias being awarded fastest sprinter of the day. In the field events, Noah was awarded 1st place in long jump.
The children should feel very proud of themselves indeed, well done Year 4!
Congratulations to all our Year 4 athletes - Tobias, Noah, Jack, Mason, Jesse, Charlie, Ashton, Lorelei, Libby, Cecily, Jemima and Ruby.
Essex finals - Kwik Cricket
On Tuesday 26th June, eight children from Year 6, who represented Lawford and won the Colchester Blackwater competition in Kwik Cricket, travelled to Billericay Cricket Club to compete in the Essex Finals.
The team were met with strong opposition, coming up against the top schools from across Essex, who were strengthened by a wealth of county players. Congratulations on being Essex finalists Albert, Cameron, Ewan, Freddie C, Fred B, Reece, Dylan and Lachlan.
Summer Fair Football Festival
On Saturday 23rd June 2018, Lawford held their annual Summer Fair and introduced for the first time, a football festival to enable all children who attended football club an opportunity to represent the school. St Georges Primary School, Great Bromley, very kindly supported this event and brought along two KS2 and one KS1 team for a fun, friendly morning of football.
Our teams of mixed ability and year group children, as always, did us proud and we are delighted to say, won both the KS1 and KS2 tournaments.
A huge well done to all the children who took part, especially those representing the school for the first time.
KS1 winning team - Grant, Samuel, Finn, Jacob, Bailey, Issy and Ben
KS2 winning team - Lachlan, Jesse, Molly, Ben, Ollie, Alice
We look forward to making this an annual event and hope to see more schools involved next year.
Congratulations to our Y6 team for winning the Colchester Blackwater School Sport Partnership Kwik Cricket competiton at Colchester Cricket Club.
Lawford played four matches against Heathlands, Mersea, St Lukes and Wentworth and walked away as overall winners after finishing undefeated from the competition.
Superb batting from captain Fred B, Dylan O and Albert saw fours and sixes hit regularly, excellent fast bowling from Lachlan and Fred saw wickets fall continuously, incredible fielding from Cameron and Ewan saved runs from boundaries and great catching, communication and all round teamwork on the field from the boys including Reece and Freddie C saw off the strong competition from the other schools.
Well done Y6 - good luck competing in the Essex finals on 26th June!
In the play off final to find the overall winners of the Colchester Blackwater School Sport Partnership in High % netball, Lawford faced strong opposition from Prettygate Primary School.
Superb passing and speed of play around the court saw Lawford crowned overall winners.
On Monday 21st May 2018, Lawford travelled to Thurstable School to take part in the Colchester Blackwater School Sports Partnership High 5s Netball tournament. Due to the ever popular and successful after school sports club, Lawford were able to enter two teams in this event, giving some younger KS2 players the opportunity to play in their first netball competition.
Lawford A representatives of Annabel C, Bella, Mollie, Phoebe, Albert, Lachlan and Ollie had an outstanding morning on court. In their first match v St Andrews, Lawford were victorious 5-0, in the second match v Heathlands 2, another clean sheet was held by the defence, 6-0 winners, in the third match v Wentworth, Lawford A recorded their highest victory, run away winners 9-0, in the 4th match v Heathlands, a controversial 3-3 was handed in on the score card, in the 5th match v Lawford 2, another 8-0 win for Lawford A, in the 6th match v Kelvedon, Lawford won 4-1 and in the final pool match v Lexden, Lawford won 3-1.
Due to Lawford A and Heathlands drawing on the number of victories, the overall winners awarded went down to goal difference, a tense wait followed whilst goals for and against were totalled and we are delighted to say that Lawford were awarded overall winners.
A fantastic all round team result for Lawford A who not only played some incredible netball but whose outstanding sportsmanship shone through and resulted in them being crowned worthy winners. Top goalscorer for Lawford A was Lachlan.
Congratulations to each and every one of our Lawford A team who will now go forward to compete against the winner of Pool 2 to establish which school will go on to represent the CBSSP in the Essex finals.
A very special mention must go to the Lawford B players of Alice, Dominic, Joseph, Martha, Freya, Ivy and Annabel, all of whom made their debut for school in a netball competition. Team B managed to record one victory from their 6 matches and should feel very proud of themselves indeed, their outstanding teamwork, support and sportsmanship shone through. Goal scorers for Team B were Dominic, Martha and Joseph.
On Friday 11th May, Lawford played hosts to Dedham in a friendly 7v7 KS1 football match.
An outstanding debut for Grant in year 1, who's individual skill and passing was notable and influential in this fantastic result, along with the more experienced year 2 boys saw the team run away with a 5 -0 victory.
Lawford's goalkeepers in both halves (Luke and Jake) had little to do as Lawford camped in the Dedham half for the majority of the match. Excellent passing, movement and awareness from Calum, Samuel, Finn, Macauley, Jake, Luke and Grant created many opportunities in front of goal for the home side, with goals coming from Jake, Calum and Finn.
Well done boys!
On Monday 23rd April, Lawford took a team of 8 children from Year 2 to the 3 Tees cricket competition at Colchester Cricket Club and WOW, what a day they had.
Lawford were pooled in Group A and had matches against North Primary and Baynards. First up came North and after some excellent batting and the first 6 hit of the day from Finn, followed by outstanding teamwork fielding, Lawford walked away with a 67-44 victory. Straight back onto pitch 1 for match 2, Lawford faced Baynards, yet again after some fantastically organised teamwork on the field and strong, accurate batting, Lawford were victorious, winning 63-34.
Lawford then faced Milldene (winners of group B) in their semi-final match, accurate batting again from Isla to score bonus points and incredible fielding teamwork, secured the win 58-37.
Excitement took hold when Lawford realised they were through to the final and playing for the opportunity to represent Colchester Blackwater partnership in the Essex finals in July. The opposition Heathlands Primary School in West Bergholt.
Undeterred by this prospect Lawford stepped up to play their final match on pitch 1, win or lose, it didn't matter as they had performed brilliantly and demonstrated excellent sportsmanship throughout the competition.
Lawford were drawn to bat first, each and every one of our children racked up the runs and Finn hit two incredible sixes to gain 12 bonus points for Lawford. They did their absolute best and left nothing in the tank sprinting non-stop to gain every run possible. Exhausted the Lawford team went out to field, their phenomenal organised fielding, where the children knew which role they had to play kept them in the game. The speed at which Macauley, Samuel and Calum retrieved the balls and Isla, Issy and Finn reset the tees paid off in a nail biting final. It was impossible to tell which team was victorious.
Called in for the final score the team sat nervously waiting, the scores were read out Heathlands 65 Lawford 72! Cue resounding cheers from the Lawford Year 2s!
We are so incredibly proud of this young team, who as a team of 8, rotated and took their turns to sit out of matches, demonstrating excellent sportsmanship throughout the day, congratulating their opposition after every match and who all played a part in winning this 6-a-side tournament.
Congratulations Isla, Isabelle, Calum, Finn, Macauley, Samuel, Jake and Luke, you are all amazing - Essex finals here we come!
Essex County Cross Country Finals - Hadleigh Park
On Thursday 19th April 2018, our Year 6 girls cross country team, having qualified as the fastest Y6 girls team at the Colchester Blackwater event at Colchester rugby club, travelled to Hadleigh Park (The venue for the 2012 Olympic Mountain biking event) to compete against 13 other teams from across Essex in the cross country finals. The girls did extremely well, finishing mid table in a high class event. Congratulations Connie, Orkney, Molly and Millie.
On Friday 20th April, 9 children from Lawford (having qualified as a top 10 runner in their respective year groups, at the Colchester Blackwater event in March) travelled to Hadleigh Park to compete in the Essex Games Cross Country individual finals.
And WOW, they did themselves, their families and our school proud. On a day of extreme heat and nerves, the children lined up with 130-140 runners in each year group category to run either the 1000m or 1500m course. To say the terrain was difficult is an understatement, this course was a serious test, that took in continuous uneven ground, steep ascents and descents in difficult running conditions.
First up came our Y3 boys Fred H, Dominic and Isaac, who ran superbly and we are so proud to say that they finished in 15th, 16th and 33rd respectively in a highly competitive race. To be able to see these boys compete so admirably with the best cross country runners in Essex and to finish so highly placed is a phenomenal achievement. Well done boys!
Next up, came our Y4 girl Jemima, who lined up amongst another 130 of the best of the best Essex runners and turned in a seriously impressive performance finishing in 38th! Well done Jemima!
Following the Y4 events our Y5 girl Martha and Y5 boy Matthew C lined up separately to compete in their respective year group races. The first races of the 1500m course, which not only took in an extra 500m but a repeat lap of the most difficult terrain section of the course on a steep ascent and descent. These children again did themselves, families and school proud finishing in 74th and 71st respectively. Well done Martha and Matthew!
Finally the Y6 events arrived, Connie, Molly and Cameron running the 1500m course during the hottest part of the day and we are so proud of their 62nd, 73rd and 42nd placings amongst the best 130 runners in their categories across Essex.
Each and every one of our children were an absolute delight and pleasure to accompany to Hadleigh Park. We would like to thank The Manningtree Community bus and their volunteer driver John for the transportation on the day and finally, our parent helpers, who were simply amazing, thank you so much Mrs Smith, Mrs Garner, Mr and Mrs Bowden and Mr Hughes for your help and support on the day.
On Friday 23rd March, five children from Year 2 travelled to Langham Primary School to represent Lawford in a 4v4 football tournament and what an outstanding afternoon of football played.
Lawford faced Langham 2 in their first match and started as they meant to go on, the whole team produced quick, accurate passing and movement off the ball, which in turn created space and numerous chances for Lawford, Finn scored 2 goals, Macauley a hatrick and Calum 1 to finish the game 6-0 winners.
Next up came Dedham yellow, the slick passing and fluid movement off the ball continued and saw Lawford claim their biggest win, goals from Calum 5, Jake 3 and Samuel 1, saw Lawford run away 9-0 winners.
In their third match Lawford faced St Johns, their toughest opposition of the afternoon, they did their best to upset the Lawford boys form but their winning streak continued, notching up a 3-0 win with goals from Jake 2 and Calum 1.
Langham 1 were the opposition in the penultimate match or the round robin stage but again they were no match for the Lawford boys, who cruised to a 6-0 win with goals from Finn 4, Calum and Macauley.
In the final match against Dedham green, Lawford stormed to another victory, goals from Jake 3, Macauley 2, Samuel and Finn saw them record a 7-0 win.
Lawford faced Langham 2 in their semi-final match and performed admirably, the Langham team came close to scoring first but the Lawford defence remained unbroken and the team again walked off the pitch victorious with a 3-0 win, goals from Calum 2 and Jake 1.
In the final, Lawford faced St Johns, who had been their strongest opposition during the round robin stage. However, they were still no match for the talented Lawford youngsters, who continued to pass the ball well, create space and shoot accurately, winning the match 4-0 with goals coming from Jake 2, Finn and Macauley.
We could not be prouder of this incredible young team, who not only played outstanding football all afternoon, scoring 38 goals and not conceding one but for their sportsmanship and excellent behaviour. To be singled out by the host school's staff and complimented on their good manners was the icing on the cake.
Well done boys, you are a credit to the school and your families.
On Wednesday 21st March, our Year 3 and 4 squash teams travelled to Colchester Garrison to take part in the finals of the Roman Cup competition.

Next up were the Year 5 boys, following a brilliant individual run from Matthew C, our first podium finish of the day, 3rd place overall and a bronze, congratulations to Matthew. Owen, Alex K and Mattie H finished in 16st, 25th and 60th place.
Then came the year 6 girls race and what an outstanding cross country it was, all five Lawford girls finished in the top 21, congratulations to Connie for a fantastic 7th and Molly for 9th place, followed by Millie 13th, Orkney 17th and Bethan in 21st. A truly incredible individual and team performance. Well done girls.
Finally the year 6 boys took the start line, from the starting whistle, Cameron fought for a podium finish, sprinting home in a phenomenal 2nd place, followed by Ewan, Freddie, Lachlan and Bobby in 15th, 33rd, 50th and 52nd.
Congratulations to each and every one of our cross country team members for their determination and efforts at this event. Huge congratulations to Cameron, Matthew C, Connie, Molly and Martha for finishing in the top 10 individually and progressing to the Essex finals at Hadleigh Park on the 20th April.
Lawford v Dedham
On Friday 16th March, Lawford entertained Dedham in their final Constable Cup fixture of the season, remaining unbeaten, the team knew that a victory would secure the Cup title for Lawford.
A fantastic team effort from the starting whistle, saw Lawford camped in the Dedham half for prolonged periods of time, however, they were unable to capitalise on a number of chances with the Dedham defence holding firm. Dedham threatened on the attack with their pace but the defensive duo of Albert and Dylan V, backed up by Joseph in goal, thwarted any chances that came Dedham's way. The impressive work rate of midfielders Cameron, Ewan and Freddie along with Lachlan in a free role position kept the chances coming for Lawford but they were unable to convert their opportunities, going into the half time break 0-0.
The second half saw a team change, Mattie H came on as goalkeeper along with Dylan O at left midfield who immediately made an impact, pressurising the Dedham defence and goalkeeper, the resulting goal mouth scramble saw Freddie C convert his chance and put Lawford in the lead. Dedham fought back and put the Lawford defence under pressure but level heads and composure on the ball from Albert and Dylan V, again left Dedham frustrated at their lack of chances. Mattie H was quick off his goal line, handling the ball with confidence, every time Dedham tried to make a breakthrough and play a long ball over the defence. Throughout the second half, Cameron, in the central midfield role, worked tirelessly in defence whilst supporting the forwards with numerous passes into space. As a result, Lachlan was able to sprint through and drive a powerful shot into the back of the net. With a more comfortable cushion of a 2-0 lead, Lawford relaxed and again piled on the pressure with great attacking play from the midfielders backed up by the defence who pushed further forward. As one of the moves broke down and Dedham charged on the counter attack, Mattie H made an error by handling the ball outside of the Lawford area, from the subsequent free kick just outside the box, a powerful shot was saved on the line by the heroics of Dylan V. The final whistle followed shortly after leaving Lawford to celebrate their final Constable Cup win.
As a result of victories in all of their matches Lawford will be crowned Constable Cup winners 2018.
We could not be prouder of this young team who have worked so hard over the last few years to win this competition. As we say goodbye to our outstanding Year 6 footballers this summer Albert, Cameron, Dylan O, Ewan, Freddie C and Lachlan, we look forward to building a new team around our remaining players next season.
Congratulations to each and every child who represented Lawford in the Constable Cup competition this season - Albert, Cameron, Dominic, Dylan O, Dylan V, Ewan, Freddie C, Joseph, Lachlan, Mattie H, Matthew C, Saziye, Ollie and Owen. An outstanding achievement , well done!
Ardleigh v Lawford
On Thursday 15th March, Lawford travelled to Ardleigh for their penultimate match in the Constable Cup football tournament. Lawford started strong and were soon 1-0 in the lead with a great goal from Freddie C, Ardleigh fought back and soon equalised from open play. With some good passing through the midfield from Dylan O and Lachlan in the free role position, Lawford went ahead for the second time through Freddie C, which saw Lawford go into half time with a 2-1 lead.
The second half was dominated by Lawford, Cameron moved to centre midfield which gave him endless opportunities to score, soon netting his hatrick, Ewan followed this with a brace of goals from open play, as strong defensive work by Albert and Dylan V left Mattie H in goal with little to do. Final result Ardleigh 1 Lawford 7.
This fantastic result has left Lawford in a very strong position to win the Constable Cup this season as they remain unbeaten with just Dedham left to play. Well done boys, we look forward to watching you in your final Cup match, at home, on Friday 16th March 2018.
On Friday 9th March 2018, Lawford took a team of Year 4 players to the Langham Primary School football Tournament, with the majority of the team making their debut for the school.
Lawford came up against a strong opposition in the first match and lost 4-0 against Ardleigh. In their second match v Gt Oakley, Lawford settled down, found the confidence to start passing the ball around and were unlucky not to score, which resulted in the 0-0 draw. Their third match v Dedham Yellows, saw end to end football with both teams scoring one goal, Lawford got off the mark with an excellent strike from Dylan. By the Fourth match Lawford were playing some really good football, Ben in goal kept a clean sheet, whilst defender Luke minimised the Gt Bromley chances with some excellent defensive work, which enabled Lawford to record their first win after an early goal from Dylan. This set a precedent for the next match, with confidence growing, Lawford passed the ball well through midfield with Ruby, Aaron, Jesse and Libby making an impact, feeding the ball through to Charlie who hit the target twice before Dylan made it three with an individual effort. In their penultimate match, Lawford came up against Dedham Greens and again, through excellent teamwork recorded a 1-0 win with a goal from Dylan. The final match v Langham ended as a 0-0 draw.
We are incredibly proud of the Year 4s, who as a newly formed team, impressed with their sportsmanship and teamwork throughout the tournament, with 3 wins, 3 draws and 1 defeat, Lawford finished in a fantastic 3rd overall.
On Wednesday 7th March 2018, Lawford took a team of 21 athletes to compete in the indoor athletics district finals at The Colne High School, Brightlingsea. Lawford came up against strong opposition from Chase Lane and Brightlingsea but still excelled and challenged the other schools in every discipline throughout the competition.
We are incredibly proud of how well our children conducted themselves during the afternoon, competing at the highest level with determination and great sportsmanship, excelling and winning in both individual and team events, our children should feel very proud of themselves indeed.
A special mention must go to two of our athletes, who were awarded Essex School Games Values certificates for honesty and respect, two of our own school values which we pride ourselves on, congratulations to Alice and Freddie C for this recognition.
Congratulations to all of our athletes for finishing 3rd in district finals - Y5 girls -Phoebe, Martha and Alice, Y5 boys - Mattie H and Owen, Y6 girls - Connie, Orkney, Millie, Bethan, Annabel, Sophie-Leigh and Freya, Y6 boys - Lachlan, Ewan, Bobby, Cameron, Albert, Justin, Connor, Freddie C and Dylan O.
On Wednesday 21st February, six children from year 3 and ten children from year 4 attended the Colchester Blackwater District Cross Country race at Colchester Rugby Club along with teams from 16 other schools. It was the first time we had taken a team for a cross country event of this scale and we are incredibly proud of them all.
The year 3 girls set off first and ran the course of 1000m in a strong field of 62 competitors, we are very proud of their efforts coming home in 16th, 30th and 48th place, well done Kayleigh, Gracie W and Izzy. The year 3 boys event followed shortly after, and in a field of 67 competitors we had phenomenal results, the boys came home in 1st, 3rd and 5th place overall, huge congratulations to Fred H, Isaac and Dominic.
Lawford entered six girls in the year 4 race and in a field of 73 competitors, we are very proud to say they finished in 5th, 16th, 19th, 21st, 28th and 31st overall. Congratulations Jemima, Ruby, Libby, Ashton, Cecily and Ella. Finally our year 4 boys ran the course and in a field of 67 competitors we are delighted to say we had another podium finish with 2nd, along with 23rd, 30th, 35th and 37th overall. Congratulations to Tobias, Aaron, Jack, Gabriel and Noah.
Huge congratulations to these children, Fred H, Isaac, Dominic, Tobias and Jemima who have been chosen to represent the Colchester Blackwater School Partnership in the Individual School Games County finals taking place on Friday 20th April at Hadleigh Park.
On Friday 2nd February, Lawford played hosts to Langham Primary School in the second of their Constable Cup fixtures. With the majority of the Year 6 footballers at the O2 for the Young Voices choir concert, five Year 5 boys stepped up to take their place and what a fantastic job they did!
Lawford attacked from the starting whistle and from the resulting corner, Lachlan scored after a goalkeeping error. After some great passing and teamwork in midfield from Lachlan, Owen and Mattie H, Lawford went further ahead with two great goals from Ollie. Superb defensive work from Albert and Matthew C prevented Langham from threatening Joseph in goal and as a result, Lawford went into the break with a three goal advantage.
Langham started the second half in a more determined fashion and clawed a goal back early on. Lawford then fought back, which resulted in Owen unleashing a terrific shot to score in the top of the net. Undeterred by the 4-1 score, Langham put the Lawford defence under increasing pressure, Joseph was kept busy in goal and Matthew C cleared the ball from the goal line on two occasions to keep the score down. However, Langham were able to snatch another goal back late in the second half. Lawford sealed the win in the last few minutes when Albert joined the attack from defence, after some excellent work in midfield from Lachlan, Albert celebrated goal number five with a powerful strike.
Final result Lawford 5 Langham 2.
We are incredibly proud of the whole team for a truly fantastic all round performance, a special mention for Owen, Ollie and Matthew C on their superb Constable Cup debuts. Well done boys!
On Thursday 1st February 2018, four girls and four boys from years 5 and 6 were selected to take part in an athletics competition at Manningtree High School. On Tuesday 16th January 2018, Colchester United Football in the Community came to school and delivered hockey training sessions to every year group from 1 to 6. A first experience of hockey for the majority of the children and we are pleased to say how well it was received.
We look forward to welcoming Colchester United back in February for another KS1 and KS2 hockey focused session.

Photos to follow!
On Tuesday 5th December, 22 children from Years 5 and 6 took part in the Birch Hall Adventure Run at Kirby-Le-Soken.
The children were truly amazing, a real credit to their school and families, with all the pairings demonstrating excellent teamwork, determination, sportsmanship and support for one another as they completed the wet and muddy 2km run and assault course challenges. The smiles on the children's faces were even bigger when they were presented with Mars Bars and hot chocolate at the finish line. An 'awesome' time was had by all!
We are delighted to say that 5 pairings completed the course with one of the top 10 times of the day and have progressed through to the final which will be on Saturday 9th December 2017.
We would like to congratulate all the children who took part in the heats and demonstrated true sportsmanship throughout the afternoon yesterday and wish all the children competing in the finals on Saturday the best of luck.
