Sports Day Fun!

Our children took part in a traditional sports day on Friday 7th July 2017. Races, relays, skipping and the egg and spoon race were enjoyed by all.  The children were cheered on by an enthusiastic crowd of parents, friends and families. New PE sportswear was worn by staff as part of our objective to raise the status of sport with children. We were joined by Year 10 pupils from Manningtree High School and they helped both events to run smoothly whilst also encouraging children to keep going.

Dedham Tennis Tournament
Well done to our Year 4 and Year 5 tennis teams, who competed in the Dedham Tennis Tournament on Thursday 6th July. The children showed brilliant teamwork and demonstrated their skills acquired from the squash training, which they received earlier in the academic year, resulting in a win for both teams.
Dedham Cross Country Tournament
A terrific effort from all the children who participated in the Dedham cross country tournament, in spite of the heat.

The Constable Cup: Update

On Thursday 9th March, Lawford had a league game against Dedham Primary School. While the score ended at 0-0, both teams played extremely well and were, by the looks of things, thoroughly worn out by the end.

Well done everyone and thank you to all coaches, referees and parents for your support in these games.

We have become a Yoga Trained School

Earlier this term, we received yoga sessions for the majority of the classes to give the children a taste of what a yoga lesson might look and feel like. Some teachers have already taught a few yoga lessons of their own as a result of the training that took place.

Essex Games (Squash)

Well done to both teams on the excellent skills and sportsmanship. Year 6 took second place in their category and Year 5 took 4th place. They all put up some great competition.

The Roman Cup Update

Congratulations to all who played in the Roman Cup. It was a fierce competition and I am pleased to announce that we have got a team from Year 6 and Year 5 going through to represent the school at the Essex Games.

Special thanks to the parents who helped out on the transport and came to support their children, Manningtree High School for their use of the mini bus in round 1 and to 'Off the Wall Squash Academy' for providing this fantastic opportunity.

New Kit from AM-VAS Leasing

The Lawford Primary School football team were very proud to wear their new kit which has been generously sponsored by AM-VAS Leasing. Paul Dowman from the company watched their match last night and saw them win their first game of the season.

We would like to thank Paul and AM-VAS Leasing very much for the sponsorship. AM-VAS Leasing deal in contract hire and vehicle leasing and can be contacted via email at or by telephoning 01206 912041. Further information can be found at

The Constable Cup (Football)

The Constable Cup has begun and what a cracking start to the competition with 3-2 win against Great Oakley Primary School. Great teamwork from all the players in Years 5 and 6. Full match report to follow soon.

Match 1: Lawford wins 3-2

The Roman Cup (Squash)

Rounds 1 and 2 of the Roman Cup have been played and there was great success for the Lawford Teams.

5 out of the 6 teams will be going through to compete in Round 3 for the chance to compete at the Essex Games. Commiserations to the Lawford Team who narrowly missed out in finishing in the top 6 for their year group but they will still be needed to play in Round 3 against 5 other teams. All teams have worked very hard and have played with integrity, sincerity and honesty as well as displaying true team spirit. Well done!

Move and Learn Project

Year 5 have been receiving lessons from Colchester United called the Move and Learn Project. The lessons consist of 30 minutes of theory such as the muscular and skeletal systems and 30 minutes of either football, dodgeball or handball.

'Off The Wall' squash coaching

During the Autumn Term Years 5 and 6 have received a 6 week coaching programme to continue their development in squash. The progress this year has been exceptional with many children moving on from the skills of forehand and backhand, while standing side on to the net, to using control in order to move their opponent around the court. Some children are even beginning to master the serve and sending the ball right to the back of the court consistently.

Academic Year 2015-16

Football Success
Well done to our football team. They have now played all their matches in the league against Dedham, Ardleigh, Gt. Oakley and Gt. Bromley. Overall they had a win, two draws and one loss. They did the school proud and played so well as a team. It has been great watching the matches, some of which had some real 'nail-biting' moments! Thank you so much to Sam Glasgow, Mrs Glasgow and Mrs Haines for all their hard work with the team.

Our Year 5&6 squash teams have recently taken part in the Roman Cup Squash Competition.
