Joining her this year will be our Y3 girls team who smashed the CBSSP event, two top 3 finishes (well done Anna and Tess) and the team for qualifying for county finals.
Y5/6 squash Roman Cup success, with Individual and team medals won in both competions - a huge well done to you all!
County finalists again following an unbeaten CBSSP event and for the very first time - our girls’ football team - huge congratulations to Eleanor, Thia, Athena, Immy, Poppy, Persephone, Emily, Daisy and Ruby.
We were unbeaten in numerous netball fixtures and look forward to competing in High 5s and more 7s matches this Spring term.
St Joseph's Girls Football Competition
On Friday 20th May 2022, Lawford entered a boys and girls football competition at St Joseph's College Ipswich and what an incredible afternoon of competition we had!
The girls won 2 games and drew 3 in their round robin tournament without conceding a goal, which resulted in a runner's up medal, narrowly missing out on being crowned champions by 1 point.
We are so proud of our girls team, having not played together before, they entered their first competition and were wonderful representatives of our school, demonstrating fantastic sportsmanship and determination on and off the pitch. Well done girls, you did yourselves, team mates, families and our school proud. Congratulations Flossy, Isla, Molly, Belle, Lily, Sophia, Odessa, Amelia and Amelie.
St Jospeh's Boys Football Competition
Huge congratulations to our Y5/6 boys football team for their fantastic performance in the St Joseph's football competition today. Leading the way in group A, our boys won all their matches 1-0, 3-0, 1-0 and 5-0. In the semi-final they faced the runner's up in group B (St Philomena's prep) and were victorious 2-0.
With St Margaret's Prep (runner's up in group A) defeating St Joseph's the winners of group B in the other semi-final, we faced the same opposition from the group stage competition and what a hard fought final it was, all even at full time, extra time of 4 minutes was played with St Margaret's managing to score in the dying minutes.
We are so proud of the boys, who played fantastic football throughout the afternoon and were fantastic representatives of our school. Congratulations on your runner's up medals Thomas, Jake, Jacob, Finn, Sam, Cauley, Calum and Grant. We are so proud of you all.
Essex Cross country finals
On Wednesday 27th April, Lawford travelled to Southend for the Essex Cross Country Finals.
With individuals in the Y3 girls, Y5 boys and Y6 boys competition and the Y5 girls team competition, we had 9 competitors qualify for the Essex finals.
Eleanor ran brilliantly in the Y3 girls race, along with Grant in the Y5 boys and Sam in the Y6 boys event, with Sam finishing with the highest placing of 25th. We are so proud of you all for taking part and competing against the best in Essex.
Our Y5 girls also had a fantastic race, well done to Nancy, Sophia, Poppy, Mia, Grace and Evelyn for a fantastic 5th place in the team event. You are all super stars and we are so proud of you all!

As always, the children selected to take part did their families and school proud, demonstrating not only their fantastic racket skills over the course of the 3 week competition but also fantastic sportsmanship.
Congratulations to Persephone on winning the best Y3 girl award and to our Y3 B team for winning the Silver cup competition. We are so proud of you all.
Autumn 2021
After 18+ months without competition or sporting opportunities, we are really excited to be back and ready to offer our children some incredible opportunities this academic year!
We would like to welcome all our external sports coaches with thanks for all the provision you provide our children at breakfast, lunch and after school sports clubs along with PE session support for all year groups.
Thank you so much for your continued support Mark Simons (Mind is Kind), Matthew Watson Tennis coaching, Off the Wall Squash Academy, Colchester United football in the community and FDE football development for all your sporting provision this Autumn term.
Mini Marathon
A huge, huge thank you to all our wonderful parents for their generous support of our Virgin Mini Marathon event. Through your generous sponsorship of the event, we were able to raise well over £1000 for new playground equipment and hopefully an exciting sporting opportunity for the whole school.
We are so very grateful, thank you.
Birch Hall adventures - Mud run!
On Monday 29th November, Lawford travelled to Kirby to take part in the Birch Hall Adventure mud run.
All the Y6s were paired up with a year 5 runner and had to complete a mile run around a very muddy field, with various challenging obstacles to overcome after the ice was broken ... yes, it was that cold! 🥶❄️
This inclusive event is always an enjoyable sporting fixture on the events calendar and the children were fantastic as always. Demonstrating real sportsmanship, by supporting their partners and doing their best as always, it was a thoroughly enjoyable team event. The children were all absolutely amazing.
Thank you so much to all our parent helpers too: Mrs Lyons, Mr and Mrs Woolgar, Ms King, Ms Hollingshead, Mr Jones, Mrs Gillanders and Mrs Livingston for giving up your time to transport groups of children and to the individual parents who took their own child to ensure they could take part in this event. We are really grateful as always for your support. Thank you too to our school team of drivers Mrs Usher, Mr Wells, Mrs Pritchett, Miss Dadd and Miss Fairbairn. It was wonderful to see all our upper KS2 children take part.
CBSSP Cross Country
On Tuesday 9th November, Lawford took 41 children from KS2 to compete in the CBSSP cross country event at the new Northern Gateway Leisure Centre in Colchester.
All our children were a real credit to their families and school and ran with real determination and courage. We are so proud of how they always demonstrate their sportsmanship, whilst offering support and encouragement for their peers.
Huge congratulations go to our Y5 girls team - Mia, Nancy, Poppy and Sophia, Y6 Sam, Y5 Grant and Y3 Eleanor, who were absolutely phenomenal, finishing 1st (girls team) and 3rd individually resulting in qualification for the Essex finals next year.
We are so proud of all our competitors, well done to you all.

Eight schools competed in the CBSSP finals, Lawford dominated the tournament for the second time, winning 6 matches and drawing1, and as a result, were crowned CBSSP champions with a 5 point winning margin. Congratulations boys - you are Essex finalists!
