Summer term 2022

On Friday 20th May 2022, Lawford entered a boys and girls football competition at St Joseph's College Ipswich and what an incredible afternoon of competition we had!

The girls won 2 games and drew 3 in their round robin tournament without conceding a goal, which resulted in a runner's up medal, narrowly missing out on being crowned champions by 1 point. We are so proud of our girls team, having not played together before, they entered their first competition and were wonderful representatives of our school, demonstrating fantastic sportsmanship and determination on and off the pitch. Well done girls, you did yourselves, team mates, families and our school proud. Congratulations Flossy, Isla, Molly, Belle, Lily, Sophia, Odessa, Amelia and Amelie.

Huge congratulations to our Y5/6 boys football team for their fantastic performance in the St Joseph's football competition today. Leading the way in group A, our boys won all their matches 1-0, 3-0, 1-0 and 5-0. In the semi-final they faced the runner's up in group B (St Philomena's prep) and were victorious 2-0. With St Margaret's Prep (runner's up in group A) defeating St Joseph's the winners of group B in the other semi-final, we faced the same opposition from the group stage competition and what a hard fought final it was, all even at full time, extra time of 4 minutes was played with St Margaret's managing to score in the dying minutes. We are so proud of the boys, who played fantastic football throughout the afternoon and were fantastic representatives of our school. Congratulations on your runner's up medals Thomas, Jake, Jacob, Finn, Sam, Cauley, Calum and Grant. We are so proud of you all.

Essex Cross country finals

On Wednesday 27th April, Lawford travelled to Southend for the Essex Cross Country Finals. With individuals in the Y3 girls, Y5 boys and Y6 boys competition and the Y5 girls team competition, we had 9 competitors qualify for the Essex finals. Eleanor ran brilliantly in the Y3 girls race, along with Grant in the Y5 boys and Sam in the Y6 boys event, with Sam finishing with the highest placing of 25th. We are so proud of you all for taking part and competing against the best in Essex. Our Y5 girls also had a fantastic race, well done to Nancy, Sophia, Poppy, Mia, Grace and Evelyn for a fantastic 5th place in the team event. You are all super stars and we are so proud of you all!

Spring 2022

The Y3/4 Roman Cup competition took place at the Corporal Budd Gymnasium in Colchester. As always, the children selected to take part did their families and school proud, demonstrating not only their fantastic racket skills over the course of the 3 week competition but also fantastic sportsmanship.

Congratulations to Persephone on winning the best Y3 girl award and to our Y3 B team for winning the Silver cup competition. We are so proud of you all.

Autumn 2021

After 18+ months without competition or sporting opportunities, we are really excited to be back and ready to offer our children some incredible opportunities this academic year!

We would like to welcome all our external sports coaches with thanks for all the provision you provide our children at breakfast, lunch and after school sports clubs along with PE session support for all year groups.

Thank you so much for your continued support Mark Simons (Mind is Kind), Matthew Watson Tennis coaching, Off the Wall Squash Academy, Colchester United football in the community and FDE football development for all your sporting provision this Autumn term.

Mini Marathon

A huge, huge thank you to all our wonderful parents for their generous support of our Virgin Mini Marathon event. Through your generous sponsorship of the event, we were able to raise well over £1000 for new playground equipment and hopefully an exciting sporting opportunity for the whole school.

We are so very grateful. Thank you x

Birch Hall adventures - Mud run!

On Monday 29th November, Lawford travelled to Kirby to take part in the Birch Hall Adventure mud run.

All the Y6s were paired up with a year 5 runner and had to complete a mile run around a very muddy field, with various challenging obstacles to overcome after the ice was broken ... yes, it was that cold! 🥶❄️
This inclusive event is always an enjoyable sporting fixture on the events calendar and the children were fantastic as always. Demonstrating real sportsmanship, by supporting their partners and doing their best as always, it was a thoroughly enjoyable team event. The children were all absolutely amazing.

Thank you so much to all our parent helpers too: Mrs Lyons, Mr and Mrs Woolgar, Ms King, Ms Hollingshead, Mr Jones, Mrs Gillanders and Mrs Livingston for giving up your time to transport groups of children and to the individual parents who took their own child to ensure they could take part in this event. We are really grateful as always for your support. Thank you too to our school team of drivers Mrs Usher, Mr Wells, Mrs Pritchett, Miss Dadd and Miss Fairbairn. It was wonderful to see all our upper KS2 children take part.

CBSSP Cross Country Success

CBSSP Cross Country

On Tuesday 9th November, Lawford took 41 children from KS2 to compete in the CBSSP cross country event at the new Northern Gateway Leisure Centre in Colchester.

All our children were a real credit to their families and school and ran with real determination and courage. We are so proud of how they always demonstrate their sportsmanship, whilst offering support and encouragement for their peers.

Huge congratulations go to our Y5 girls team - Mia, Nancy, Poppy and Sophia, Y6 Sam, Y5 Grant and Y3 Eleanor, who were absolutely phenomenal, finishing 1st (girls team) and 3rd individually resulting in qualification for the Essex finals next year.

We are so proud of all our competitors, well done to you all.

On Tuesday 7th October our Y5/6 football team competed in the first round of the Colchester Blackwater School Sports Partnership football tournament. Playing every team in the competition, Lawford won 5 and drew 3 matches finishing in 1st place overall. As a result, Lawford progressed to the finals which took place on Thursday 4th November.
Eight schools competed in the CBSSP finals, Lawford dominated the tournament for the second time, winning 6 matches and drawing1, and as a result, were crowned CBSSP champions with a 5 point winning margin. Congratulations boys - you are Essex finalists!

Autumn 2020

Welcome back! We have really missed all the children and outdoor learning/sporting opportunities in school.

We are very lucky to have Mark Simons in school this half term delivering the 'Mind is Kind' well-being workshops through PE, to support all the children in every year group across the school. Mark is an experienced football (Norwich City development) and athletics (level 4) coach. Welcome Mark and thank you so much for your support.

We have also welcomed back our 'Off the Wall' squash coaches - Lauren, Emily and Connor, who will be delivering our squash PE lessons to our Y5 and Y6 classes this half term.

Y3/4 Cross Country  - Colchester Rugby Club

On Wednesday 5th February, Lawford selected two teams from years 3 and 4 to compete in the Colchester Blackwater Schools Sports Partnership cross country event at Colchester Rugby Club.

The 1200m course around the perimeter of the rubgy club is quite daunting for some, especially when competing in a field of over 100 children but not for our Y3 girls, they all ran courageously and competitively and we are delighted to report that Mia, after working her way through the masses and finally finding herself in front before the half way point, led for the majority of the race and finished strong ahead of the field to claim 1st place and the gold medal. Nancy also raced superbly and was only pipped near the finish line to finish 3rd and claim the bronze medal.

Huge congratulations to both Mia and Nancy, who will now qualify for the Essex finals, which will be held at Hadleigh Park later in the year.

Congratulations also go to Lily, Eliza, Naomi and Margot who completed our amazing Y3 girls team. We are so proud of you all.

Next up, were the Y3 boys, where we witnessed more courageous running and a competitive spirit, huge congratulations to Grant for taking the highest placing for the Lawford boys with a fantastic race to finish in 5th place, and to all our amazing Y3 boys team Eddie, Raphael, Thomas, Alex and Travis.

The penultimate race saw the Y4 girls compete in yet another strong field with over 100 competitors, we are so proud of the courage and determination shown and congratulations go to Flossie for 11th Place, Issy 19th, Grace 21st, Zarah 34th, Amelie 36th and Isla 69th. Well done girls.

Last to run were our Y4 boys, and here we saw a field of very strong competitive runners, demonstrating real courage and determination. and determined this young man was, vowing to go one better than last year's 2nd place, Jacob soon worked his way to the front of the field and ran a very strong race to claim the desired gold medal and 1st place. Congratulations Jacob, an Essex finalist for the second year running! A last minute replacement for a poorly Samuel, saw Calum claim a fantastic 15th position and Jake 17th, 3 boys in the top twenty! Finn followed in 26th and after being tripped and falling during the race, Macauley picked himself up and fought on to finish in a respectable 45th place. Congratulations to all our boys!

We are so incredibly proud of all our children who competed and look forward to witnessing the progress they make in cross country running over the next few years.

Year 3/4 Langham Football Tournament

On Friday 8th March, Lawford attended the Langham Primary School year 3/4 6-a-side football tournament. Each team played in the round robin tournament and Lawford's results were as follows:

Lawford 2 Ardleigh 0 (Dominic and Jake)

Oakley 0 Lawford 1 (Samuel)

Gt Bromley 1 Lawford 1 (Dominic)

Lawford 3 Wix 2 (Macauley x 2 and Jacob)

Dedham 0 Lawford 2 (Finn and Samuel)

Lawford 1 St Johns 1 (Macauley)

Lawford 1 Langham 0 (Macauley)

With 3 points being awarded for a win, two for a draw and 1 for a defeat if only losing by 1 goal, Lawford topped the rankings with 19 points after their 5 wins and 2 draws. The top 4 teams then played off for the trophy. Lawford faced 4th place Bromley in their semi-final and after some excellent teamwork on the field and superb goal keeping by Jacob, Dominic secured the victory for Lawford winning 1-0. The other semi-final between Oakley and Wix went to extra time and penalties, with Oakley finally securing their final place.

Lawford stepped up for the final confident having already secured a win in the round robin tournament, with goals from Dominic and Samuel, superb work from Macauley and Jake in midfield and Finn holding the defence firm and another solid performance from Jacob in goal, Lawford were eventually crowned as rightful winners.

We are so proud of how the boys conducted themselves throughout the tournament, demonstrating not only excellent sportsmanship but fantastic support for each other, all taking their turn in goal and in every position on the pitch.

Congratulations Finn, Macauley, Samuel, Jake, Jacob and Dominic.
